Hare's Ear

A general-purpose buggy nymph tied with hare's-mask dubbing and a gold rib. Imitates mayfly nymphs, caddis pupae, and "something edible underwater."

Also calledHare's Ear Nymph · Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ear · GRHE · Hares Ear

The Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ear is the second-most-fished nymph after the Pheasant Tail — and where the Pheasant Tail leans slim and dark, the Hare's Ear is buggy and brown, with picked-out fibers that suggest legs and gills. Sizes 12–18 in beadhead and weighted versions.

When you don't know what's in the water, a Hare's Ear under an indicator at depth is a high-confidence drift. Works in 90% of trout streams across North America.
