Caddis

An aquatic insect with a tent-shaped wing posture as an adult. Behaves more erratically than a mayfly on the surface — fish key on motion when caddis are on the water.

Where mayflies float passively as duns, caddis skitter and bounce on the surface. A dead-drift sometimes works, but a small twitch — or a swung emerger pattern — can trigger more strikes during a caddis hatch.

The Elk Hair Caddis is the iconic adult pattern. The X-Caddis covers the emerger phase.
