Eddy

A pocket of water where the current circles back on itself, creating slack on the inside of bends or behind structure. Fish use eddies to rest and feed without fighting current.

Also callededdies

When a current hits a boulder, undercut bank, or downed tree, the water on the far side spins backward — a small zone of slack water inside a fast river. That's an eddy.

Bugs collect in eddies. Fish know this. A drift through the seam where the eddy meets the main current is one of the most reliable shots on a small stream.
