The Phoebe is a thin, lightweight spoon made for trout in clear water. Where a heavy casting spoon plows through, the Phoebe rides higher in the water column and gives a quick, tight wobble at slow speeds. That makes it a finesse tool, not a long-distance lure.
Sizes 1 to 3 cover most stream and small-lake trout. Gold flashes warm and works well in low light; silver flashes hard and shines on bright days over clear water. Both are simple, bright finishes that read as a small baitfish.
Fish it in clear, low flows when trout are looking and spook easily. Water in the 48 to 65F range is the sweet spot. Cast down and across and use a slow, steady retrieve, just fast enough to keep the spoon wobbling and no faster. Let it swing on a tight line through the tail of a pool or along a seam. Strikes often come as it slows and starts to rise.
