Mend

A flick of the rod tip after the cast to reposition slack line on the water and let the fly drift naturally.

Also calledMending · Line mend

A mend is a quick lift-and-flip of the fly line after it lands on the water. The goal: stop the current from grabbing your line and dragging the fly across the seam unnaturally.

Upstream mend when the fly is in faster water than the line. Downstream mend when the line is moving slower than the fly. Most missed fish on dry-fly water aren't a fly choice problem — they're a mending problem.
